The first design phase of the thermometer included a four-week field research in Masindi, rural Uganda. Specific user needs and value propositions were identified by using a combination of human centered and other ethnographic tools. Early findings were used in co-creation sessions with local medical doctors, nurses, mothers and community health workers, to generate preliminary concepts ideas and rough mock ups. Based upon the collected feedback, ther preferred design was selected and optimized for the needs of the users and charcateristics of the local healthcare system.
